Does D-Mannose Really Work? What do the Clinical Trials say?

Clinical Trials testing the efficacy of D'Mannose have concluded it is an effective treatment for up to 85% of female patients with a history of recurrent Urinary Tract Infection. Patients on the antibiotics reported significantly higher side effects and had a higher rate (20%) of re-infection.
A growing body of evidence points to D-Mannose being a natural alternative treatment for a wide variety of ailments and diseases including Cystitis & UTI, Prostatitis and general Bladder Problems. Many thousands of people have found relief through D'Mannose and we continue to receive dozens of letters and emails every week from our grateful readers.
So How does D-mannose Work?
The E. coli strain of bacteria is responsible for up to 90% of Urinary Tract Infections. When taken as a supplement, D'Mannose is not metabolised (not processed) by the digestive system. It enters the urinary system where it becomes attached to the E. coli causing the infection. The unified bacteria and D'Mannose are then expelled in the urine.
When normally friendly symbiotic bacteria such as E. coli from the gut enter the urinary tract, they rapidly change their physical characteristics. Urine is a desperately challenging environment for the normal rod-shaped bacteria...
So the E. coli develop fimbrial hairs with mannose receptors to attach to the mannose in our tissue cells. It's a desperate struggle for survival, and they cling on and release toxins that eat away at the lining of the bladder causing it to become irritated and inflamed. This allows them to burrow deeply and attach to the mannose molecules of the cells in the bladder lining.
However, this simple and highly effective attachment mechanism can be used against the bacteria. Introducing larger amounts of mannose molecules into the urine results in more bacteria attaching to the more readily available mannose. Less bacteria attaches to the body's natural mannose in bladder cells. The bacteria, suspended in the urine, are then flushed away when you urinate.
The Studies
In this 6 month long Clinical Trial conducted by the NIH in February of 2014, the objective was to test whether or not D-Mannose could effectively prevent recurrent UTI in women, which according to the NIH occur more frequently in Women than Men, at a ratio of 8:1.
The NIH Clinical Trial concludes that: "D-mannose had significantly reduced the risk of recurrent UTI". With results showing that D-Mannose patients: "had a significantly lower risk of recurrent UTI episode during prophylactic therapy". A prophylactic dose is simply a dose of D'Mannose taken daily as a preventative measure.
The Journal of Clinical Urology Pilot Study concludes: "A significant difference was observed in the proportion of women remaining infection free versus antibiotic treatment." And results showing: "Mean time to UTI recurrence was 52.7 days with antibiotic treatment, and 200 days with oral D-mannose". Evidently D'Mannose was much more effective than antibiotics at reducing the risk of recurrence of UTI.
Unlike powerful antibiotics which may cause side-affects, D-Mannose is an all natural sugar already present in our bodies which can be safely taken long-term. This is because D-Mannose does not affect the bacteria in any way. It simply attaches to it. The ingested D-Mannose is not metabolized by the body, the bonded D-mannose and bacteria are expelled with the urine. Essentially flushing away the disease, the excess D'Mannose and all associated symptoms.
